Ok so a little background. I'm 99% sure I'm about to go to Egypt. At least I have a non-refundable ticket booked there for the 10th. Yeah, yeah I know about the protests, but I figure if I stay way from trouble spots and use common sense I should be fine (Famous last words?). I studied Arabic in school and I've been dying to check it out, besides I'm not going to wait for a decade for such an amazing country to get un-fucked up. I've also done a fair bit of travelling (all over Asia, 2.5 months in Tanzania), some of it by myself as well, so I think I'm prepared.
It's going to be a low-budget trip. I have money, but it seems like travelling burns a hole in your wallet faster than dating (Really fucking fast). Think hostels, street-food, and third-class train rides. I'm definitely going to check out as much of the ancient Egyptian sites as possible, hopefully without the normal crowds.
I'm only going to be in Egypt 3 weeks, but the plan (almost definitely subject to change), is to go Cairo -> Luxor -> Aswan, race up to Alexandria, and then possibly hit Siwa by Libya. I would go to to Dahab (a well known backpacker's paradise), but I've never really been a huge fan of beaches (yeah I know that's really weird).
Oh and after Egypt, I'm going down to Kenya. I basically have 7 weeks starting on the 10th to travel my heart out until school starts in August.
